Months had passed and I had made new friends, had multiple crushes, but had yet to find my place in the school. One of my new friends wanted to ask a guy to Luau, the girls ask guys spring dance, and suggested I ask his friend. I was up for new things so I agreed. Turns out the guy she wanted to ask was none other than Kyle.
The first time we officially met was at a pep assembly. He played in the pep band and I happened to be sitting nearby. After finishing a song he and his friend jumped up and sat right next to me. I thought it was odd that Kyle sat so close to me, but I didn’t say anything. He seemed very hyper as he introduced himself and his friend with a big grin. Only a few moments had passed and he apologized as they bounded away to go play another song.
Luau came and we all attended as a large group. During the evening, Kyle asked if I wanted to dance. I agreed and he pulled me onto the dance floor. He pulled me close, closer than my date had. The odd thing was that it didn’t alarm me. I felt safe and happy in his arms even though we hardly knew each other.
Five days later, Kyle and I started dating. It surprised me how quickly I fell in love. Just over a month after we started dating, Kyle and I took a walk to a nearby park. As the sun set he held me in his arms and told me he was falling in love with me. Five years later we were married.
It has been nearly 11 years since we first started dating and I find something new to love about him with every passing year. I still wear the promise ring he gave me when we were 17. Who would have thought I would find the perfect husband at the age of 16? I certainly didn’t, but I’m thankful every day that I did.
